The Capital City Museum is open year round except for holidays. It is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M., closed Sunday. Museum is designed to visit on your own. Handicap accessible. Motor coach parking next to museum.

Free self-guided Walking Tours of Historic Downtown Frankfort. Tour brochures are available at the museum. Call 502-696-0607. Parking is adjacent to the museum at 325 Ann Street.

This year we recognizse the 150th Anniversity if the Civil War with free self-guided Civil War walking tours of downtown Frankfort, brochures available at the Capital City Museum, 325 Ann Street, 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Chuck Bogart’s free historic walking tours leave from the old L&N Train Depot between the History Center and the Capital City Museum at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday October 4, 11, 18, and 25. There is only one tour given on each date. This popular hour-long tour shares the history of Frankfort’s railroad days from its beginning to the present. Make your reservations at 502-227-2436. Parking is adjacent to the museum.

The Leslie Morris Park atop Fort Hill features two Civil War forts, the Sullivan House interpretive center, a picnic pavilion, a scenic downtown Frankfort overlook and several hiking trails. The park is open to vehicular traffic year-round from 11 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.  Free guided tours are available Monday- Saturday from Memorial Day through October 31, 2011.  On Memorial Day, May 30, 2011, the park will feature Civil War Living History with cannon fire, demonstrations, tours, etc. Saturday, June 11, 2011, will feature living history with emphasis on the Frankfort skirmish with Morgan’s Raiders - not a re-enactment but living history demonstrations and tours of the site.
 

NEW!! Russ Kennedy’s free KY River Walk will begin the fourth Thursday of each month starting May 26, June 23, and July 28, August 25 and September 22. The tour leaves from the River View Park near the Farmers Market Pavilion at Wilkinson and Broadway at 10:30 A.M.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling 502-803-0242.

All programs are free of charge.

Families come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. “Family” can be a family of one, a kid and neighbor/grandparent, whatever - just any kid under 14 needs to be accompanied by someone over 14.
