“KIDS & KEEPERS” AT COVE

An Expanded Summer Program at Cove Spring Park 2011
for Pre-school thru Elementary Kids

Weekend programs, open to all, are standard fare at Cove Spring Park/Nature Preserve.  In 2009, something new was added: a summer series of weekday morning activities for kids and “keepers.”

Geared to children ages 3 – 7 years old, each “kid” must be accompanied by a “keeper” 14 years or older – can be a parent, grandparent, babysitter, older sibling, neighbor, family friend. Participants are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the shelter following the program.

Led by Certified Environmental Educator Debbie “Nan” Bramlage, the 2011 programs will take place Wednesday mornings for one hour, beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Each program will provide an opportunity for discovery and connecting with nature, for movement, and a related craft project. June 29 is start-up for the programs; July 27 will be the last on-site program.

In 2010 we held the programs on both Tuesday and Thursday mornings; finding that this conflicted with some library and other programs, we’re trying the “once a week on Wednesdays” alternative so folks don’t have to choose – and kids have more opportunities.  We’ll welcome your feedback on this new schedule!

August will feature self-guided Discovery Hikes. At the Information Kiosk in the main park, Kids and Keepers will find printed handouts for a new adventure each week. A fresh activity guide will be in place every Wednesday from August 3 thru August 24, and remain available for a full week.

These programs, sponsored by Frankfort Parks and Recreation Outreach Division, are free to all participants. More information, call 513-300-8500 or 502-352-2028.
